In April I found out about an online-event called the Dewey’s 24-hour Readathon where participants read all over the world for 24 hours. Everyone is starting at the same time no matter what time zone they’re in.

I didn’t find out about it until the day of so I had no way of participating then but I made a note in my calendar for the one held in the autumn, which is today.

For me the event starts at 2 pm which is pretty good for me. I can do all my prep in the morning and get ready to start at 2 pm. Then I can read into the night (which I do often anyway) and set the alarm to get up early tomorrow for some more reading until 2 pm when it’s finished.

I dropped Isabel off at hiking group pickup at 8.30 am today then biked to the store to stock up on snacks and food for tonight. I’m doing the WW-thing again (it’s going pretty good actually) so I went easy on the unhealthy foods and candy and decided on veggies and a sour cream dip. I also got some meat and potatoes for dinner tonight that Rickard agreed to fix for us so I can read.

I have pulled out some books for my TBR pile (lots of new acronyms to learn – TBR=To Be Read).

• Neverwhere is a reread (love it)
• The Name of the Wind is new and I have read a few chapters but can’t really get into it, everyone keeps telling me it’s awesome and keep at it so I put it in the pile.
• Who Fears Death is new to me
• The Lies of Locke Lamora is my current read – I’m halfway through and that will be my starting point. I hope to finish that one if nothing else
• The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is also new – I mostly got interested because of the cover and then the blurb which is how I find many of my books.
• Tales of the Peculiar is set in the same universe as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children which I loved. I think it’s short stories but I’m not sure. Again – pretty cover and a universe I already liked
• The Sleeper and the Spindle is a short illustrated book that I have been trying to get to – I put it in the pile for an easy finish if I grow tired of the other stuff
• Hansel & Gretel – same thing I’m hoping it’s a quick read and I love Neil Gaiman’s stories so I’m sure I will get through that one quickly
• Not in this picture are all the books I have on my Kindle – Johannes Cabal is the one I’m reading at the moment and I plan to switch between that one and Locke Lamora – at least to begin with.

I do plan to get an early start though because Isabel’s pickup is at 2 pm so I figured if I got an hour read before that I could count it towards my total even if the 2-3 pm hour is lost in getting her home.
