Books to (Re-)Read in 2019

I’m on my way to match the total books read from last year. With three weeks left of the year (one of which I’ll be on vacation) I have read 111 books – I should be able to at least match 129 from last year. We’ll see.

I’ve started thinking about possible re-reads for next year though. I have already started a re-read of the Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch, I’m currently on book 4 and I plan to get through them all during 2019.

Gail Carriger, who is one of my favourite authors, will host a re-read event starting in January of all her books leading up to the release of her last Custard Protocol book in August. We’ll be re-reading The Finishing School, Parasol Protectorate and Custard Protocol books as well as the tie-in short story and novellas.

According to the Parasol Protectorate Wiki the order will be something like this:

I think I’ll re-read a few of Anne Rice’s books this year. I loved her books as a teen after getting Interview With the Vampire for my birthday one year. I’m not too keen on them anymore and while I still buy her new stuff I’ve not read any of it yet. I plan to re-read Cry to Heaven and Servant of the Bones though. I may re-read The Mummy as well because she did write a sequel to that which I have in my TBR-pile.

In addition to these re-reads there are a few series I’d like to finish or catch up on.  Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop is the last in the The Others-series. I want to read The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch to catch up on the Gentlemen Bastards series, and I also want to finish The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss of The Kingkiller Chronicle just in case either of them release the next book in those series.

I’m also working my way slowly through Jordan L. Hawk’s Whyborne & Griffin series. It’s historical romance with some horror, supernatural and crime solving elements and I really like them. I’ve read 4 so far and I plan to treat myself to the next one in January. There are 10 released and the 11th and final book is announced but doesn’t have a release date yet.

Also in late January, K.J. Charles is releasing a new book called Any Old Diamonds which I am very much looking forward to. It’s only just been announced so there isn’t a cover yet. She has hinted at a few more books next year which I’m very happy about. I reviewed her Band Sinister this fall.

So those are the plans at the moment. Check back to see how I do.
