Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from reading your book

I’m having a bit of reading difficulties. I keep starting new books but it’s been a while since I finished one.

I don’t normally have problems having more than one book started but right now I feel scattered and distracted. I’m reading one book on my phone, another on my Kobo e-reader, I have one paperback book I’ve started and I listen to a fourth on audio when I commute to and from work, and then today I had a pre-ordered book delivered that I would really like to start but I must finish one of the started ones first. Don’t I?

My girls are out of school for the summer and all their evening activities have ended so I don’t get as much time waiting around in the car for them. Plus as they get older I don’t have to wait around for them as much any more. They take the bus to the activity and only require being picked up.

There is also the issue of wanting to watch movies and tv-shows. Rickard and I finished GoT along with everyone else in May, then we quickly went through Good Omens in June and now Jessica Jones is on Netflix for her final season. This also takes up precious reading time.

I wrote the above yesterday but couldn’t bring myself to post it. I know I read more than the average person and it had only been three days since I finished the last book but I really felt stuck and stagnant. But then just like that I finished three more books in two days.

After work last night I sat down to read the last 50 minutes of the book on my phone, I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish the one on my e-reader and this morning on my way to work I took a bit of a detour to finish the last 30 minutes of my audio book (it was a re-read).

So yes, sometimes life feels like a series of obstacles to reading my book but sometimes the universe bends a little and the obstacles fall away.

At least for a little while.
