Books I Read in 2020 – October

October was a bad month reading-wise. Like proper bad. I didn’t finish my first book of the month until the 22nd. But I still managed three books. November isn’t looking that much better.

The Immortal City by May Peterson is the second book in her The Sacred Dark series. I liked the first one in that series, Lord of the Last Heartbeat which I read last year. This one took me a while to get into. I didn’t really understand the magic and the mechanics of the world – maybe I need to re-read it because I missed something. Ah well.

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. Wow, this was so fun. I don’t normally laugh out loud when I read. It’s more of a ”shrug and express air through nose”-thing when I read something amusing, but this book really had me laugh out loud. Luc is hopelessly chaotic and needs to chill out, and Oliver the tight-knit, rigid man that needs to loosen up. Of course they will fall for each other when all they wanted was a fake relationship for appearance’s sake. So good.

Documenting Light by E.E. Ottoman. This was a quick cute read. Wyatt is a closeted non-binary person and Grayson an out transman. They meet when Wyatt finds a photograph of what appears to be a same-sex couple from the early 1900s. They team up to try and find out who the persons in the photo are and it makes them discuss the nature of historic research into queer history. It sounds dull, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I really liked it.
