Books I Read in 2020 – November

November seemed to start out a bit slow but I re-read an old favourite series and I ended up finishing seven books after all. I still feel super scattered and it was nice to have old friends like Murdo and David to turn to at the beginning of November as what felt like the whole world was holding its breath while waiting on the US election results.

Restored by Joanna Chambers is book #5 in a series that started with Provoked. This one revisits club owner Kit Redford from the short story Season Pass and the novel Unnatural.
It centres the story on him and his former lover/keeper Henry the Duke of Avesbury. 20 years after their disastrous parting they meet up again and while sparks still fly it takes a while to mend their differences. It was excellent, and a re-read of the whole series may be timely.

Unnatural – Joanna Chambers
Beguiled – Joanna Chambers
Enlightened – Joanna Chambers – Hrm, well. There was a re-read. I skipped the first in the series because I’ve re-read that several times. I still enjoy them.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune ended on a strong note. I had such a hard time getting into it and I kept nodding off when I read it but I turned a corner and in the endI couldn’t put it down. It was cute and sweet and really good.

The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo is a short story about cleric Chih. They collect stories and histories and the way we’re treated to this story is lovely. The language is sparse and you never get much but always just as much as you need to puzzle the story together on your own. Lovely. I just pre-ordered the sequel (releases on Dec 8th)

A Matter of Disagreement by E.E. Ottoman is historical romance set in an alternate universe about two rival scientists who discover that while they disagree on scientific matters they very much agree on the more personal stuff. Also lovely – and it has sequels!
